✱✱ Book Review ✱✱ The Green Eyes of Jealousy: A Short Story by Nicole J Merchant

For Foster An Author week, I'm enjoying reads by my foster authors. This morning's read was The Green Eyes of Jealousy: A Short Story by Nicole J Merchant.

Katherine has always known there was something seriously wrong with her little boy, but when his behavior worsens after her daughter Sarah is born, her suspicions are confirmed.
She begs her husband night after night to listen to her.
The boy needs help.
James’ response is always the same, his denial clouding his vision. He accuses Katherine of being crazy, neglectful, but never what she truly is, a mother scared for her and her daughter’s lives.
Years of torment breaks Katherine, and James disappears for longer hours at the diner. She has never felt more alone in her whole life, and with her little boy getting worse, will she be able to convince her husband to do what is best for Robert, or will she have to take matters into her own hands?
Hands that have held the child close. Hands that have trembled with fear.

The Green Eyes of Jealousy: A Short Story is available on Amazon and is listed in Kindle Unlimited.

Momma Says: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What do you do when the person you're blood bound to protect is the person you fear the most?

Holy Moly! This story is creepy! This wonderfully written short story was perfect for a Halloween season read. It's only about an hour's read time, and in all honesty, I'm not sure I could've taken much more of the darkness held within these pages. It's rather like a train wreck - I wasn't sure I wanted to see, but couldn't look away. Considering the length of this tale, I won't go into details so as not to give spoilers, but I was amazed at how well the author conveys Katherine's terror, anguish, and utter helplessness as the story progresses. The creep factor always goes up when kids are involved and inside these pages, I found a nightmare to rival the likes of The Omen.
If you enjoy a good, scary tale, but are easily frightened, read this one is daylight! I'm glad I did.

About Nicole:
Nicole was born in Vancouver, Washington, and is the mother of three amazing boys, and married to the love of her life. She has enjoyed writing since she was young, dabbling with poems and other short pieces for many years of her life.
Inspiration for her first novel hit her when a couple of her close friends suggested she take her writing further. She started her first full-length novel after that.
Nicole lets her imagination run wild, and her characters run the show.
She has never grown out of believing in fairy tales or happily ever afters, and to this day, hopes to meet a fairy one day—if not that, at least a vampire. She believes that all dreams can come true. If you believe hard enough, nothing is impossible. Dreams are just realities not yet started, and with hard work, passion, and a never give up attitude, anything is possible.
