Momma Says: 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐

Having not read the earlier books in this series, I went into this one a bit blind as far as what to expect. I did have some confusion about some things, but was still able to keep up with the story and was surprised at the level of emotion. On top of that, we have some intriguing characters and a story that kept me turning pages. The whole thing is very well done and drew me in completely. So much so that I will be checking out the other books in the series. And that ending! Totally didn't see that coming.

“Watch your mouth Ms. Smartass.”

“You’re kidding me. You’re pissed off at me because my boyfriend threatened you in some way, and he’s not even my boyfriend anymore?”

“It’s always the woman’s fault anyway.”

“Oh my god. You two are delusional. You really believe that nonsense? You must really hate women. What’s the matter? You two losers always getting shot down, or is it because you can’t get it up anymore?”

Aggravating them may have been a mistake, but I’m fuming.

“We’ll show you who can’t get it up.”

Walt grabs me by my arms and twists them behind my back. Bill starts coming at me. I see headlights coming toward us. I’m relieved hoping I’ll get help. Maybe they’ll see I’m in trouble and stop. I hear the car go screeching by fast. Oh I guess I’m not getting help. I leverage against Walt, throw my legs up into the air, and kick Bill right in the gut as hard as I can sending him to his knees. I stand again, but Walt still has a hold of my arms. While this is going on, I hear a loud screech and squeal and hear a car backing up like a scene out of a movie. Bill gets up calling me a bitch. I stomp on Walt’s foot hard then elbow him in the stomach. He bends over in pain. By this time the men in the car that squealed by are out of their doors.

I hear my name being called. “Shit, Marcy honey!”

The next thing I know Brad is beating the crap out of both men. Now they’re on the ground. Damn, I’ve never seen him in action. He’s good. He put them down without haste. I hear the other man who is Peter call 911 and ask for the police because a woman is being assaulted. He tells them where.

Brad comes over to me after making sure Walt and Bill aren’t getting up.

“Baby, are you all right? Did they hurt you?”

“My arms are sore from being held tightly, but otherwise I think I’m fine.”

“Let me see your arms. What the hell? Look at your arms. Who did this?”

Walt doesn’t say a word. Brad looks enraged. He looks at me and all he says is, “Which one, Marcy?”

I point to Walt. Brad walks over to him while he’s lying on the ground and grabs him by his shirt. He lifts him up and punches him multiple times in the gut and face. Walt goes back down. Brad puts his arms around me. I hold onto him for dear life.

About Linda Burson

Linda Burson
Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was a teenager. She started out writing memoirs and continued writing by attempting several nonfiction pieces.
After attending college, pursuing other interests, and traveling, a lot of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.
After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.
After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.
In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing notes about how her novel would progress. After that, the writing began and it never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of 13 books in the series.
When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”
Linda is now in the process of writing a new thriller novel, a short story, and has just completed a mystery called Murder Among Friends, which is due to be published April 15, 2018. Her seventh book in the MARCY SERIES is due to be released mid 2018.
