Cowboy Burn
Smoke, Inc. Book 2
by Gem Sivad

Harley-Jane Arthur is broke but creative. Using her artistic talent she intends to sketch her way out of debt. With that in mind, she accepts a commission to be the entertainment at an upscale kids’ party.

All goes well on the day of the event until an unexpected snowstorm strikes, leaving Janie stranded in the city. While trying to claim the last taxi in sight, though she doesn’t realize it, she witnesses a murder.

Gable Matthews, a.k.a. Cowboy, has been waiting years for Janie to notice him. Rescuing her during a blizzard gives him a chance to go from his handyman status to something a lot more romantic.

While they’re snowbound in Gable’s apartment, sizzling passion keeps them warm. But outside a killer lurks, planning to silence Janie forever.

Momma Says: 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐

COWBOY BURN is fast-paced romance with the added bonus of a bit of danger. Gable Matthews is the very definition of a lovable cowboy. He's sweet, considerate, and when the time is right, goes for what he wants. In this case, he wants Harley-Jane Arthur, and he wants her for keeps. Janie is more reticent about a relationship after suffering a loss, and from the backstory, Gable has been patiently waiting for her to start living again. Despite Janie's reluctance, the chemistry between this pair is undeniable, and while this isn't a second chance love story for this pair, it is a second chance for Janie. The question is whether or not she'll take the leap and give her heart to this oh, so lovable cowboy.

The suspense side of this one was a bit different from the norm. While the reader knows what has happened and catches tidbits along the way, the characters don't have a clue. In most cases, this would pull me out of the story, but the writing and flow somehow made it work and while our couple is busy getting to know each other, in and out of the bedroom, there's a quietly building tension on the periphery.

The book is a well-written and entertaining romance with some fun, sexy times and the added bonus of some suspense to keep the pages turning. All in all, COWBOY BURN is a good addition to the Smoke, Inc world and I'll be interested to see what this author has in store for us next.
