✱✱Audio Book Review✱✱ Heartless by Jade West

Heartless
Starcrossed Lovers Trilogy, Book 1
By: Jade West
Narrated by: Desiree Ketchum & Tor Thom

In a single moment, she becomes my obsession....
Elaine Constantine will be mine. And her destruction is only my beginning.

I’ve known all my life that the Constantines deserved to be wiped from the face of the earth, only a smoking crater left where their mansion once stood. That’s my plan until I see her, the woman in gold with the sinful curves and the blonde curls. My will to dominate her runs as deep as the hate I have for her last name.

No matter how beautifully she bends beneath my hands, I'll leave her shattered, a broken toy for her cruel family.

Momma Says: 3 stars⭐⭐⭐

Heartless is kind of a dark and twisted Romeo and Juliet. Lucian and Elaine come from warring families, and to be honest, their time together is brutal. The book is full of violence, including self-harm, and yes, it is dark and disturbing. Now, I've read dark and disturbing many times before, some more so than Heartless, and some not so much. The drawback for me with this one is Lucian. Try as I might, I just could not like him, not even a little bit. Tor Thom does an excellent job with the story, He captures Lucian's arrogance perfectly. Elaine comes across as a bit softer than Lucian, but she has some surprises up her sleeve. Desiree Ketchum gives her usual top-notch performance as Elaine, There are some pretty emotional scenes, and these two totally nailed the narration. What I found most interesting was how many things they have in common despite being from rival families. As I mentioned, I had a really hard time with Lucian. I just couldn't warm up to him. Maybe things change as the trilogy progresses, and Lucian's redeeming qualities come through. I hope so because I didn't see any in this first book. This is the first in the trilogy, so of course, we get a little bit of a cliff, but I expected that. It just didn't grab me like I hoped, so I'm on the fence about whether I'll finish the trilogy, but for now, I can say this one is not for the faint of heart
