Game of Life is everything a gripping psychological thriller should be. It's fast-paced with whiplash inducing twists and turns, and no one - absolutely no one - is above suspicion. I lost count of the number of times that I was sure a certain character was at least in on Morgan's abduction, only to be given another plausible suspect. At one point, I was even considering huge conspiracies. Despite my many theories, when it all played out, I still didn't have it, at least not all of it. All of that alone would've made this one a solid thriller for me, but the real beauty of this one is the emotional element. This author didn't just tell us how these characters were feeling. She pulled us in and made us feel it all with them. Everything, from Morgan's terror and anger at her situation, even her determination to survive, and her moments of utter despair. Then we have Reid, who ran the gamut of emotions, and we get it all. His anger when Morgan doesn't get home on time, his anxiety when he realizes something may be wrong, his doubts, his fear, and his own despair at the thought of losing her. Of course, we can't forget the Wolf, who had his own moments of self-doubt and fear, but mostly, his thoughts are just downright creepy. As are the little games he plays with Morgan and her family. Each turn of a page brings you another twist in this thoroughly gripping story. It's positively impossible to put down and when I had to, I found myself thinking about how quickly I could get back to it. To sum it up, Belle Brooks messed with my mind, and I absolutely loved it.
