Sweat
by K.B. Andrews
You can belittle us, judge us, and hate us, but you'll never understand us.
I’m forced to live a life that doesn’t belong to me.
I’m expected to be the best at everything, get into a good college, and make smart choices.
But what I really want to do is throw caution to the wind.
I want to be free, make mistakes, and live by my standards.
I want Ian Webster.
Ian is the guy I should avoid.
He’s a thin line between living my fake life and taking what I want.
You could say we’re star-crossed lovers, a modern day Romeo and Juliet, but I say, we’re meant to be together despite everyone trying to keep us apart.

Sweat is one of those stories that reminds us of first love and the impetuousness of youth. Addison is the golden girl. She's in the "right" crowd, keeps her grades up, dates the popular boy - she has it all, except she doesn't want any of it. What she does want is the bad boy next door. On the surface, Ian is everything she shouldn't be around, and her father has no problem with ensuring that she stays on the path he's set for her, whether by force or trickery. The story is emotional and packed with teenage angst, but it's also thoroughly compelling from start to finish. It's a Romeo and Juliet style, coming of age romance minus the tragic ending. The forbidden romance trope isn't a new one, and we've all seen this story done and done again, but KB Andrews took it and made it all refreshing with Ian and Addison. It is a romance, but it's also a story of following your heart regardless of what society dictates.
