Taking Root
The Eros Tales Book 1
by Katherine McIntyre
I’ve been burned by my ex-fiancée and sentenced myself to long shifts at the hospital ever since. There’s no way I’d give anyone else the opportunity to break my heart again.
Until chance brings me face to face with the girl from my past.
Danielle is still as beautiful as ever, and seeing her reminds me of how I felt about her—how I still feel about her.
But she’s changed. I can see it when I look into her eyes. It’s like she’s no longer living, but merely existing. An enigma laden with secrets from her past—secrets that are forcing her to run from me. Only this time, I won’t let her get away so easily.
I’m determined to peel away every layer of secrets she carries around her, and to protect her from whatever it is that’s causing her to run.
Danielle Reynolds will not slip through my fingers again.
This time…she stays.

I rarely read the blurb for books by my ever-growing list of go-to authors, so with this being a Katherine McIntyre story, I just started at page one, being pretty certain I was going to like it. Imagine my surprise when I found no magic, no Fae, no shifters. What? Did I open the wrong book? Nope. Ms McIntyre has thrown something new into the game - normal people. By that time, I was already invested in this story and its characters. So, yes, Danny and Adrian are normal, at least in terms of magic. Their story is anything but. They've been given a second chance, one of my favorite tropes, but Danny's secrets could very well destroy everything, both figuratively and literally.Taking Root is a great mix of suspense and steamy romance, and it's everything I've come to expect from this author - a gripping storyline, terrific characters, a big bad that will not only give you chills, it will make you wonder about the so-called regular people in regular houses all around you, and fantastic writing that creates a story you can't put down. This first in the series has set the bar high for what's to come and kept me turning pages long past bedtime.
