Sugar High by Mimi Kinley

 “I wanted to see you.”

“Me?”

I realize I sound silly, but I can’t get my brain around the two giant bombshells he just dropped. My body is misfiring simply trying to decide whether to whoop for joy or jump his bones.

He steps a little closer to my counter and I can feel the sexual tension between us triple.

“Yes, Livy, I wanted to see you.” Oh my God, how does he do this?

I shake my head, “Only my friends call me Livy.”

He meets my gaze and swear to God I almost orgasm from the intensity.

“Then let’s be friends.”

Mountain Man’s Healer by Sadie King

A pink tongue flicks out and licks the berry juice off her plump lips. A bolt of electricity straight goes to my cock and he jumps in my trousers. Christ, those lips.

I lower the binoculars.

Perspiration pours off me, even though it’s autumn. My hand reaches for the cold beer on the windowsill and I take a long swig. It does nothing to help cool me off.

Damn this woman who’s trespassing on my land.

A fence came down in a storm a few weeks ago. It’s near one of my cattle runs and before I could fix it, she must have mistaken it for a path.

That was three weeks ago. She’s been up here every Saturday since, wandering round my land, picking my blackberries and wildflowers, and probably talking to the goddamn butterflies.

It would be easy to mend the fence and put a sign up to say keep the fuck out. But then I wouldn’t get to watch her.

I raise the binoculars. She’s picking berries with her back to me. It’s a sturdy looking back, with broad shoulders and wide hips; a well-made woman. My dick twitches appreciatively.

“Go easy fella.”

Yup, I’m talking to my dick. That’s what happens when you spend too much time alone.

My dick doesn’t usually complain; he’s gotten used to it being just him and my hand. But since this honeybee started trespassing on my land, he’s been staging a protest. Letting me know how I should be dealing with this particular trespasser.

“We’re not in the Middle Ages.”

I chide my penis because I know what he’s suggesting. And while I’d love to stride over there and rip her bodice open, or brassiere, or whatever women wear these days, that’s not how we deal with women in the twenty-first century.

Casper thumps his tail on the floor, no doubt thinking I’m telling him off. He shuffles over to me and presses his wet nose into my palm.

“I suppose you’d like some company too.”

He gives a yelp and that makes the woman look up sharply and toward the house.

“Shit.”

I lower the binoculars and hope she can’t see in the window from where she is.

Without the binoculars, she’s a blurry outline; a splash of yellow amongst the green trees. She’s staring at the house no doubt squinting and wondering who lives there.

She lifts an arm and gives a tentative wave.

“Shit.”

Casper yelps again but I remain frozen. I like looking at the woman but the last thing I want is to actually talk to her.

After a while she gives up and lowers her hand. I breathe a sigh of relief as I raise the binoculars.

She walks along the path a bit and stops before a tussock of yellow and white wildflowers. God knows what kind of flowers they are. I don’t know shit about flowers but I know they make her smile.

It’s a wide, carefree smile and I can imagine she’s humming as she picks them.

Her face is pleasingly round with soft dark eyes. Her skin looks fresh and smooth apart from small smile lines at the sides of her lips and eyes. Some people might say she’s ordinary looking, but there’s a permanent slight grin on her face that makes her beautiful.

She’s sweet, I can tell. A gentle soul who’s wandered onto my mountain.

My cattle are grazing over the other side of the hill, so she’s in no danger of coming across a stray bull. But there’s bears in the mountain and while they don’t usually come down this far, I can’t be sure.

At least that’s why I tell myself I’m watching her; to protect her from the bears.

My dick twitches again.

“Pipe down you, it’s for her own protection.”

She puts the flowers in her basket and strolls back the way she came. I lose her in a clump of trees and move through to the kitchen so I can follow her down the path.

She swings the basket looking for all the world like bloody goldilocks skipping through the woods.

So innocent, so sweet and untainted.

“Fuck.”

My cock is rock hard against my jeans, rubbing against the fabric. The friction sending waves of electric volts all the way down my legs.

She stops in the path and bends over. Fully bends over with her ass in the air. She must be tying her shoelace or something, but fuck me, those wide hips and grabbable ass…

“Okay, you win.”

Keeping one hand on the binoculars, I unzip my trousers. Feeling like a giant perv, I pull my throbbing cock out of my pants and grab it in my waiting hand.

Mountain Man’s Healer by Sadie King

I must be freakin’ dreaming. I’m in his cabin. The hot man with the chest carried me, and I’m not a small woman, he actually carried me into his cabin, laid me down and is now tending to my ankle more gently than I’d imagine someone his size can be.

“Did you come here alone?”

“Yes,” I blurt out before realizing I’m in the cabin of a stranger and should have some kind of stranger danger control on my mouth. He could be an axe murder for all I know.

“Where’s your car?”

“In the carpark down the road.” There I go again. Once he disposes of my body he’ll know exactly where to find my car to dispose of that as well.

Only I don’t think that’s what he’s going to do. Call it intuition or call it stupid, but I feel safe here. Completely safe with this man.

“You can’t drive on that ankle. Not today.”

He’s right. There’s a throbbing emanating from the ankle all the way up my leg and I don’t like the idea of putting pressure on it. Grabbing my phone out of my pocket, I go to call Aria. I’m sure she’ll be able to come pick me up and I can get the car another time.

“No reception.”

The lack of bars on my phone confirms what he’s saying.

“Internet?” Maybe I can send her an email or a message.

He snorts. “Sorry honey, it’s a tech free zone up here.”

This is such a strange concept that my mouth drops open, dumbfounded. “How does anyone get hold of you?”

He shrugs. “They don’t.”

I guess that’s the way he likes it. A proper recluse.

There’s something nice about that, disconnecting and not being bothered by what’s happening online.

But that doesn’t help my current predicament.

“I don’t suppose you could give me a lift to town?”

I’ve just met the guy but unless he wants me spending the night here, I don’t see another way around it.

He cuts me off. “You definitely shouldn’t drive, you’ve been concussed. You can’t drive for twenty-four hours and you need to be kept a watch over.”

Ohh, maybe he does want me to spend the night. A thrill goes through me and I clamp my thighs tight together containing the delicious shiver between my legs.

“I would take you into town, but my pick-up’s got a flat battery.”

He turns away when he says it, moving to the kitchen to put some water on the boil.

It takes me a moment to realize what he’s telling me. “So, there’s no way for me to get home?”

“You can take the bed and I’ll sleep here on the couch.”

I sit up, sending the chicken nuggets rolling to the floor. “Whoa, hold up. You’re seriously suggesting I stay here for the night?”

My heart’s thumping in my chest. Because while I know it’s completely insane to want to stay with a man I just met, my body has gone all hot and my lady parts squishy and to be stuck here with this man seems like exactly what I want to happen.

Which is insane.

He shrugs his considerably big shoulders. “Sorry honey, I don’t see what else we can do.”

Sweet Surrender by Fern Fraser

I don’t believe in destiny, fate, or luck. At least I didn’t until she walked into the room. Maddie. Beautiful Maddie. Now I know that all the clichés about lightning strikes and fireworks are true.

I want to see you again. I want to know everything about you. I want to know you in every single way a man can know a woman.

There’s no engagement or wedding ring on her finger, which means I stand a chance. And where there’s a chance, I’m going to take it. “Can I buy you dinner?” I ask. Crap. That didn’t come out the way I wanted. I need to be specific. I can’t wait. Please don’t make me wait. “Tonight,” I add. I want to slide my thumb along the column of your neck, cup your face, and whisper dirty sweet words in your ear.

The scissors fall from her hand and clatter on the tiled floor. She curses under her breath, then bends over to pick them up. I struggle to tear my gaze away from her perfect ass but manage to do it before she catches me gawking.

Blankets & Laughter by Megan Wade

Dusting off my hands from waffle-cone crumbs, I make a quick lap around the block, scouting out the fire escape in the alleyway behind the apartment complex. I grin to myself as I head over, finding an abandoned couch that's just tall enough to help me reach the ladder. Checking my surroundings, I make sure the coast is clear since this’d look real suspicious if I was to get caught. Not everyone in town knows me, and this act will look more like a break and enter over a strange, plump woman trying to surprise her best friend.

Confident the cops won’t be on their way any time soon, I climb onto the couch, and slightly hop to reach the fire escape, bringing it down without a hitch. The ladder creaks and groans as I bring myself up two floors to Vera's bedroom window—which, fortunately for me, is unlocked and cracked open slightly. I peek through the glass but can’t make out much in the dark room. Then I lift it open fully, the faint smell of cedar and warm soap filling my nose and making me hope I’m not interrupting something adult with my surprise entry. When my eyes adjust to the darkness, I can make out the outline of her sleeping form. Only one body. Phew! But I can’t believe she’s gone and fallen asleep when she knew I was coming to town today.

The grin on my face widens.

Oh well, this just makes it more fun since Vera has done this to me soo many times over the years. This is the first time that I finally have the upper hand.

Trying not to giggle, I tip-toe over to her sleeping form, and just as I reach the foot of her bed the floor creaks, making me freeze. The sleeping figure shifts and groans, and before I can lose my edge I jump to the side of the bed yelling, "Surprise!"

In a blink of an eye, two strong arms grab me and haul me onto the bed like I’m a rag doll, pinning me to the mattress as he growls over me.

What? Wait, hold up!

"Who the hell are you?" a man, who definitely isn't my best friend, demands. Oh. Shit.

My Heart’s Obsession by Barbra Campbell

I’m not moving home. I’m not. I’m coming back, temporarily. Not so different than any of the times I’ve visited my dad.

The boxes filling every free space in my Subaru taunt otherwise.

If my best friend Savannah hadn’t pulled a fast one and taken a job in my dinky stomping grounds, I might have stayed in San Diego to job hunt.

A shiver runs down my spine. She’d said Pearl Springs was a temporary gig, only a couple of months. How could she have fallen in love and be considering staying?

I shift in the driver’s seat, sitting straighter. At the very least, I won’t fall in love. How can I when my sister has already had every man in Pearl Springs?
