If you're looking for a bit of escapism, Vanessa Vale's North will do the trick. It's a fast-paced story, easily read or listened to in an afternoon or evening. That said, I would suggest listening with earbuds if you're in mixed company because this one is steamy enough to fog up all the windows. The romance between Jed and North moves very quickly, like instalove quickly, but there is good chemistry between this pair right from the start. The suspense side of the story isn't too hard to figure out, but this one feels like it's more about the steamy goodness than the twists. The narration is done by Kylie Stewart, who gives a good performance and doesn't trip over the kind of unusual names in North's family a single time. I'll admit that I got a chuckle out of them, but at the same time, I'm not likely to forget them. It's been a while since I've read a Vanessa Vale book, and I'd forgotten just how entertaining they are. So, if you like romantic suspense that's heavy on the sexy with a bit of kink, this first book in the Billionaire Ranch series is one to check out.
